Judging from the fact that Nephthys apparently concieved a son through Osiris and never, in any legend, concieves through Seth is quite eye opening. She also abandons him at the first oppurtunity to help Isis and helps foil her husbands plans by helping to revive Osiris. I dont think there is much to say that there was any love between the pair at all.

Taken from a People Magazine article (Oct 4, 2004 issue) called Dr. Know about a man who read all 29 volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica:

"Ancient Egyptians mummified their cats and even mice, so the cats would have something to eat."

Also, up until the reign of Qa-a (or should that be Ka-a, my book really does have appaling translit!) Pharaohs murdered their harem and servants so that they had a workforce in the aftelife. After this the famous Ushabti (or at earlier times Shabti) or should that be Weshabti?! dolls were introduced and Pharaohs stopped this grim tradition.

I read about that somewhere and it sorta frightened me and not wish to have been in Ancient Egypt. Then after a while it didn't bother me anymore. I used to have dreams of being a servant to the royalty. Dun remember whom I was serving. Maybe Hatshepsut or Nefertari or some female. I think it was a while after seeing Mummy Returns and watching those flashbacks. Cuz it seemed very real walking through the palace and temples. I miss those. I have quite a few and a couple were one of those continuous dreams.

Perhaps I should find a quite place and time during the next week or so and try to remember what had happened then write about it. I believe I'd callit meditation which has worked for me before when i try to remember past events.

I know that this topic is a bit aged, but you may find these facts interesting if you are writing a story about Egypt.

The Crook and Flail, the symbols of the Pharaoh, were not just there for show. The Crook, like a shepards crook, symbolized that the Pharaoh guided his people as a flock and treated them tenderly. The Flail, or ceremonial whip, symbolized that he would discipline his people when necessary. The ancient name for the crook is Hekha, and for the flail, Nekhaka.

-Akhenaten

-In order to deter flies from landing on him, Pepi II of Egypt always kept several naked slaves nearby whose bodies were smeared with honey.

-The Ancient Egyptians invented toast

-The ancient Egyptians played a game like bowling using large stones set up as pins and small stones as a ball.

-While the use of antibiotics did not begin until the 20th century, early folk medicine included the use of mouldy foods or soil for infections. In ancient Egypt, for example, infections were treated with mouldy bread. (yuck!)

-The earliest known standard of weight is the beqa, an ancient Egyptian unit equalling from less than 0.5 ounce to 7.5 ounces. It is still generally used in the weighing of precious metals, gems, and stones in troy weight.

-The name Egypt comes from the Greek name for the country: Egyptos.

-Over three thousand years ago the Egyptians were skilled in the use of geometry to plan the layout of their buildings. It is believed that astronomy may have been significant in the alignment of their pyramids and temples.

-The Egyptians were the first people known to have separated copper from its ore, about four thousand years ago.

-The ancient Egyptians had a 365 day solar calendar like our own. (cool but odd since I believe they had a 10 day week?)

-It is believed that there were female doctors in ancient Egypt.

-An ancient Egyptian cure for baldness was treatment with a mixture of crocodile, hippopotamus, lion, snake, goose and ibex fat.

-Cats were first domesticated in Egypt. The goddess, Bast, is the patroness of cats and the home. (good thing rameses II idea of having pet lions didn't catch on)

-Craftsmen made pottery. They used a wheel to make bowls, platters, jugs, jars, and small cosmetic pots. Some had handles. Others did not.

-Most Egyptians were slim. This was due to the constant physical labor. Only the officials and scribes seemed to gain weight. The poor people envied them for their comfortable life. (I envy the rich for there comfortable life as well LOL)

-The doctors in Egyptian culture lived in the temple called the House of Life. The doctor would examine patients and chant magical spells. Doctors in Ancient Egypt were skilled and could even perform brain surgery(wow!!). They also created medicines from plants. Many of the medicines tasted awful. Garlic and honey were used for stomach infections.

The royal flail was probably a device for harvesting resin from bushes.
