I have no idea really. I keep telling everyone that I read something about the pyramids in a book or magazine and it just "clicked".
I know it was in 3rd grade, I was 8. And that's all.

It's funny because starting in 4th grade, everybody in my classes and al my friends knew I was interested in Egypt. And between February and the end of the school year, each year I was given some sort of present from my friends who either used their real money or used reading money (which everyone earned by reading books everynight). In 5th grade I got an Egyptian pop-up book. It was cool. I got presents until 10th grade, when I moved.

Strangely enough, my first impression of the Egyptians was when I was like four. It was in a little half hour Bible cartoon about the Moses story. And quite frankly, I thought the Egyptians seemed like real jerks.

But then I slowly developped a slight interest over time. Like, I'd skim the odd article, and watch whatever documentary I happened to run into while channel surfing. And then, what made Egypt really hit me is sort of a wierd story.

I got that computer game "Pharaoh", and my queen name was "Kiya". Later, I was watching a documentary, and it made a brief reference to this Kiya. So then I thought "dude! This is an actual historical person!" SO I did a google search on her.

From there, I found the Tadukhipa/Kiya story and thought (because I've always been big into writing) "dude, this would be a great novel!"

So during my research, I fell in love with the Amarna period and, as a result, the rest of Egypt. And the rest (they say) is history.

I was about 12 years old I think. We were learning about Ancient Egypt at school and we had exams with Christmas (as well as with easter and in june). I failed my exam in history and the teacher made me do a "vacation task" we call it in the christmas vacation. That's how I got interested. I actually got maximum points at it and I've been hooked ever since! :D
So you see, school IS good for something! ;)

Then i watched a movie it's called 'yugioh'. my sister watches it. then i was studying eygpt in our history class, which the movie was based on the pharoahs and gods and eygpt so i now like am in love with eygpt. i think this is because i well, am totally thinking that magic exist there.

By your logistics, I should be interested in French and/or German history, but I could care less :D

Mostly, what drew me to ancient Egypt is the hieroglyphs. I've always loved learning new languages, but in my opinion, the standard Latinized languages (e.g. French, German, Spanish, etc.) are overplayed, and I refuse to be some loser comic book guy who thinks he's some Japanese Samurai who gets overweight and is a disgrace to human kind.. So, out of spite to the societical jerks that I hate, I found hieroglyphs.

After delving into the new language, I decided to start studying the culture, which blew me away. Incest, murder, deceit, war ... it's great.

I don't really remember when and how I've begun to like Egypt, it seems like I've always liked it. Even as a child it was very interesting to me, later my "passion" faded a bit, but then I went to Egypt for a holiday and it was all back. :D
