I read a book last year about Arkhanaten being Oedipus. Queen Tiye would have been Arkhanaten's mother and wife. After Arkhanaten died or was exiled King Tut may have publicly humiliated his brother (Arkhanaten) and his mum (Queen Tiye) and this may have fuelled a plot to end Tut's life prematurely.
Can't recall the state of Queen Tiye's tomb etc. Can someone help on this?
Queen Tiye would have married Amenhotep III first and had 2 sons - Arkhanaten (Amenhotep IV) and Smenkhkare who were to become King Tut's elder half brothers. Confusing? Too right!
P.S. Yuya who was Tiye's dad was definitely Joseph of the technicolour dreamcoat fame, but that's another story.

A book written about 30 years ago by a guy named Immanuel Velikovsky. I don't know if anyone takes it seriously.

I've read that book, and I kind of hated it.

The last time anything Freudian looked at Amarna period Egypt, they came up with the "brilliant" theory that Akhenaten is Moses. Freud's theories are now barely applicable to actual psychology. Why should we trust his opinions on Egypt?

For those who don't know their Bible stories: Joseph brought himself and his eleven brothers into Egypt. We still need enough time for all of them to reproduce to a sizeable population before we can have a Moses figure entering the picture.

Seeing as how the Egyptians erased all traces of Akhenaten, it is unlikely that Sophocles (a Greek) would have heard about him and decided to write the Oedipus story about him. And, suppose we made a giant leap of faith and said that Akhenaten did screw his mother, that would still be the only actual similarity to the Oedipus story. Definately not enough parallels to form a good conspiracy theory.

Does anyone believe in reincarnation? It seems that historians see parallels in history and mix up timelines, so that we get things like Akhenaten was Moses etc.

My past life researches lead me to think that Nefertiti became Catherine the Great. Tsar Paul was Catherine's son.

Tiye was Akhenaten's mother. Many years after the death of her husband Amenhotep III, she is still mentioned as Queen and beloved of the King [which was already at that time Akhenaten]. It was only "suggested" [take note of that] that Akhenaten and Tiye acted as consorts until the time of their death [which was at that time "incest"].

Akhenaten is not Oedipus. But only rather the symbolic representation of the legendary King of Thebes, and Tiye for Jocasta.

Even if 2 people are king & queen they do not have to have a sexual relationship. In England a Mayoress was usualy the Mayors wife but increasingly it is a friend or relative who will fill in the ceremonial/social duties.

But such a relationship was not seen in ancient Egypt, where so much pressure was put on Pharoah and his quees (or queens) having children who might ascend the throne.

My Oedipus Complex is the first story I read and its cute and clever enough that Ill certainly be reading more of the stories. I have the larger collection from the library, so Ill have to jump around to find the nominated stories. If any of you enjoy specific ones, please recommend them in this thread.
